Ohia Gardens is nestled among the Ohia rain forest that encompasses the "still Active" Kilauea Volcano. You'll be in awe of the beauty that surrounds this lush tropical forest where wild orchids and other varieties of plant life are plentiful. The panoramic view of the Kilauea Crater is breathtaking, and the beauty and the mystery of this enchanting home of Pele will leave you with memories of a very special time in your life.

Originally built in 1991 and completed in 1992, it was built as a family retreat. But, the beauty and tranquility could not be contained to the family.

Ohia Gardens opened it's doors to the public in 1994. Since that time it has hosted people from all parts of the world.

Your Hosts:
Sherri Higginbotham

As your hostess, I was born and raised in Oregon. I moved to Washington in my young adult hood. After living there for a few years, I moved to Boise, Idaho. I quit my job there in 2008, to take  advantage of an offer to move to Hawaii. As I had never been to Hawaii, I thought it would be a great opportunity to learn something new.  I have enjoyed all the beautiful scenery that Hawaii has to offer. I decided that it would be fun and challenging to be involved in Ohia Gardens. When I dont have a lot to do, I do enjoy photography.

Charles Mohica

Originally from the North Shore of Oahu and a graduate of Waialua High, class of 80, I went on to attend DeVry Institute of Technology in Phoenix. After graduating from DeVry in 1982, I worked for a variety of Blue Chip Technology companies as a Field Service Engineer until February 1988. At that time I started up my first business. Then in 1991, when construction started on the house in the Big Island, I fell in love with the beauty of the Big Island of Hawaii. In 1995 I went back to DeVry to obtain a Bachelors Degree in Technical Management. After graduating, I went to work in Boise, Idaho for another high tech company. Then finally returned home to Ohia Gardens in June of 2000 for good. Now the doors have reopened to the public so that they too, may continue to enjoy the tranquility of Ohia Gardens. I am an avid outdoorsman and have hiked literally hundreds of miles on the Islands as well as on the mainland. I possess an intimate knowledge of the trails, beaches, old Hawaiian villages, cultures and traditions of the Islands and am happy to share these stories with our guest.
